Well, root=/dev/hdc8 works! Now, why is it that I should be using a
RAM disk rather than "just" the kernel to boot an OldWorld machine?
(there seems to be no difference between the two)

Also, I manged to resatisfy a dependency problem (libcom_err.so.3 and
libcom_err.so.2) :) :) :) so my server daemons are back up and running
(of course, I did remove a lot of KDE-related stuff and re-install
some of it to get there)
