Sound on a 333 Lombard

ok.. I logged in as root and installed the update. I know it installed because if i try to install it again it says that it is already installed. When I reboot, the system still has the old kernel version listed, and the sound still doesnt work... How can I get it to use the updated version? BTW, thanks for all the help
