[IMPORTANT] SOUND!!!!

ALSA works fine with applications that know how to use it: xmms, xine,
mplayer, even MOL.  

I have yet to get descent sound out of anything associated with the KDE
desktop. The sound test from the KDE control panel plays a recognizable
sound awash in an angry sea of white noise.
