To restate the obvious, it would seem that something is not working. To
determine what, one needs to rule out the possibilities one by one. Does
the card work at all? If the card works in a Windows box, that is known.
Is the card compatible specifically with the PCI or PCI-X bus in your
computer? Read:

Can the card work on a 32-bit PPC computer in Linux? If you put it in a G4
running Linux, that is known. Finally, how does Mac OS X treat the card in
the G5?

The xmms problem is known and I expect that it will no longer exist in a
few days.
