Powerbook trackpad, broken???

My new 15" 1.5GHz came in yesterday, and the trackpad is USB,
which doesn't work in Linux (only my USB mouse works).   :-(

Is this a kernel problem, or a X.org problem?  
dmesg says it found the USB trackpad, but the X log says it can't find it.
