Getting Older Mach64 based rage card working in YDL 3.0.1

Hello, I just installed YDL 3.0.1 on my Power Mac 9600 (looking at 
upgrading it to YDL 4.0) but cannot seem to get X to run using its 
Mach64 video card.  I've tried numerous Bootx compliments and tried 
using both 'ati' and 'atimisc' drivers in X to no avail.  I am hoping 
that someone here has had a similar problem and has a solution
