Though it is not exactly the same as mounting a networked drive, for
transferring files I have had very good luck using ssh/sftp. ssh can be
accomplished over a commandline, but sftp is *much* easier with a GUI.
To connect to Linux from the OS X side, I use the freeware program Fugu
(highly recommended), and on the Linux side Konqueror works well (use
the open command and type your address in the format
"sftp://brogan@192.168.0.2" to connect). This might accomplish much of
what you want to do, and has the advantage of being extremely secure.
