[ydl-gen] G3 iBook not Awakening

I'm back to trying to figure out why my G3 iBook will not wake up from
sleep.

I have discovered what seems like it should be a significant clue, but
I can't figure out what this clue is trying to tell me.

If I sleep the machine at the graphical login screen it wakes up just
fine, but if I sleep it after I log in it does not awaken fully. It
seems to be awake in most respects, I can ping it, the caps lock key's
LED toggles on and off, but all I see on the screen is text reporting
the nework inerfaces coming back up etc. It seems like the graphics
system is not coming up.

Is there some difference in the graphics setup between the login screen
and normal user operations? XF86Config screen section is only listing
1024X768 resolution but at 4 different color depths.

Machine is a stock G3 iBook at 500Mhz, 640MB RAM, 10GB HDD running YDL
4.0.1 with all yum updates applied. Machine was setup with "desktop"
package selection and the only other package installed is Firefox. No
other OS is on the Hard drive. I know most of these things shouldn't
matter but I list them for completeness sake.

Any ideas?
