[ydl-gen] YD4.1 install hang up

I¹ve anxiously awaited the release of the promised easy install to an
external firewire drive. Downloaded the four iso¹s and what do you know, the
installer will not recognize my firewire drive. I¹ve formatted the drive
with the OSX installation disk utility as free space, no go!
I¹m not a total newbie but at this point I¹m at a loss as to what to do
next. Does anyone have a suggestion?
