[ydl-gen] ydl5 kernel compilation on PS3

Hello,
   I have tried to compile the 2.6.17 kernel from source on a ydl5 running
on a PS3. The compilation is successful and I have copied in the /boot
directory the vmlinux file. Moreover I have created the .img file in the
same directory. Then I have modified the /etc/kboot.conf in order to insert
an entry for the new 2.6.17 files but unfortunately when I reboot and at the
kboot prompt I choose the ydl2617 options the kernel hangs without messages
and does not proceed further.

Do I miss something? There is any additional issue to perform on ppc
machines that is different from x86 machines? If possible I'd like to
receive links to general kernel compilation instructions for ydl5 on ps3.
