I had the opposite experience: I tried a non-HDCP monitor and it
certainly did not work even though it recognized the signals and
reported the correct resolution (1280x720). I also tried it on its
native resolution (1280x1024, mode 12) which it reported correctly
but didn't display an image. Without changing anything, I hooked up
an HDCP monitor which worked "fine" - if by fine I mean a fuzzy
scaled image which gives me a headache to look at for any length of
time!
