Yes -- going into GNOME and mv ~/.e ~/.e_backup, then going back into  
E11 makes the CPU much happier e.g. top reports 2% while idle.  All I  
really did was try to make the fonts look better in Terminal windows  
(where they look really blurry to me compared to my OSX or Windows  
boxes), but i'm happy to have the CPU back :-)
