Install stalls

Hi,
Has anyone out there installed YD to a 7220/200 power mac.
Using OS 8.5 on a 200mg partition the Boot X init crashes the mac 
with an "unimplemented trap"
Shift restart and launching the BootX app direct gets into the 
install process from the cd.
But at the formatting stage first time it killed all the processes, 
second time has been sitting at /dev/hdc8 formatting for about half 
an hour.
Not much ram on the machine and a i gig partition for linux but then 
all I want to do is run a firewall and proxy.
So far my first time install on a mac is not so hot.
Any guides out there ?
