Airport Help

Hello, Im a newbie at this so here goes:

I am trying to get my airport up and running with YDL,
 I have tried everything in the book and it still
isn't connecting.  I have tried all the book stuff
plus this stuff:

/sbin/ifconfig/

ifdown eth0

ping apple.com

and I still can't connect, can any body help?? also, i
know i can connect cuz i do with mac, if Terrasoft
would have built in like a airport wizard like apple
did, i would of connected within seconds...
