PPP Problems

Hi,
  I am having trouble connecting to my ISP. I can connect just fine in
MacOS, but none of the three Linux distros I have tried (LinuxPPC, Debian,
and YDL) have been able to get through. In YDL, kppp is able to find
the modem, dial and connect to the ISP, but then everything stops and
eventually pppd times out. I think the problem may have to do with the
login script. When I try connecting to my ISP via Zterm in MacOS, I get
a prompt asking for "System password:" (after I hit enter once). How
can I address this issue? Thanks.
