I'm working on a G4 (on a DSL line which is really irrelevant -
ethernet is ethernet) and my network setup has been a challenge.
After going through the install process 5 or 6 times I don't even
bother with setting it up at install time. I've learned that you
first must setup your network card, mine does not work "out of the
box". Until you do that, you will get nowhere. Use "network
configuration" under the "system" heading from the "start" menu - not
the one with the yellowdog logo, the other one. You may have to play
with it until it works: add your device, even if it's listed. Delete
the other one. I have to keep at it until it lists my card as "3-Com
(throw it away!)" - literally. Bring the "monitor" up and if it's
working you will see activity after awhile. You may have to reboot
somewhere in the process to initialize the card. It was painful and I
don't have the process perfected, but next time I will at least know
where to start.
