mouse stuck in graphic login mode

Installed YDL 2.2 on an Old World PM7500/200 without a hitch--works fine using
text login, but I chose GUI login in Gnome, and now I get no response from the
mouse.
I can navigate with the keyboard, but can't figure out how or where to change it
back to text (command line) login.
Complete newbie at Linux, and can't seem to find the app that allowed me to
change from command line to GUI login!
