That's the ticket, right there. As I remember when installing on my 
Performa 6400, the YDL partition had to either be left as unformatted 
space or it had to be HFS (not + ). Try removing the format for vol-B 
re-install YDL, allowing YDL to do the ext2 partitioning in the - now 
empty - space.
