Hello

I need a bit of assistance getting my Powerbook to run YDL 2.3.

Current Setup
1998 Wallstreet 233/14.1/192/30GB (ATI Rage Pro Lt)
YDL 2.3 using the 2.4.19-4a kernel

Currently, when passing kernel arguments via BootX

Video=3Datyfb:vmode:14
The machine boots fine and runs fine in terminal mode only. The
Xwindows interface is garbled (vertically striped, really)

Video=3Datyfb:vmode:10 (install manual says to try this too)
The machine boots fine and runs well in graphical mode, but only the
first 800x600 pixels of the 1024x768 monitor. Yuck.

Checking the no video driver box causes the machine to hang at boot

Passing the command video=3Datyfb video=3Dofonly (which worked with my =
2.2
kernel linux PPC) hangs at boot also.

I tried to vi the /etc/X11/X86Config-4 file and change a few settings,
but have not had any luck.

I have searched in vain through the YDL mailing lists with no luck
either.

I man -k through the man pages and found no information related to the
vmode setting or any helpful info.

Questions:

Is messing with the /etc/X11/X86Config-4 file the way to go?

If so, what are some variables to play with on that page?

Is there a video config tool to run?

What are some more vmode settings to add to the BootX panel?

Where are the video settings hidden? I cannot find any panel in KDE to
adjust the color depth or monitor sizes. In Mandrake, there was a
HardDrake tool that manipulated a lot of these settings. What is the
equivalent in YDL?

Any help is greatly appreciated, I want to bring this unit to my LUG
tomorrow and show of a true multiboot environment. (OSX, 9.2 (with
Virtual PC), 8.6, LinuxPPC (on a hot swapable bay drive), and YDL) The
group is mainly intel folk and have no mac hardware experience for
assistance. I want them to be impressed with stupid boot tricks on a 4
year old laptop.

Rob
