Help! How do I correct messed-up monitor settings

Success... though only after re-installing and selecting the text-based
login. Tried all the possible options for video=xyz? in the kernel args. box
without success so thought the simplest would be just to reinstall.

It would appear that the max resolution I am able to support on my
SonyCPD-G400(19") is 1290-10?? (not quite sure what the value actually is).
Once root login complete, I ran Xconfigurator and tried the different
resolutions.

One last question... where are the ctrl-alt/option-F? keyboard commands
defined? I used the C-O-F2 to recover from a poor resolution selection GUI
login window back to the command line (and then killed the startx to enable
me to re-try with the new resolution). Are any other F-keys defined?

Nathan.
