2 questions that will definately qualify me as a newbie

Hello All,

This my first post to the list.  Im sorry for having to post and take 
your valuable time with such easy question, but I am unable to locate 
the answers anywhere.  I have been searching for 2 days now.

First Question:

I am using YDL 2.1 and really liking it.  However, I would really love 
it if I could set Gnome to be the defaul GUI instead of KDE.  Is it 
possible to set this up so that I dont have to select Gnome from the 
menu of the login window?

And my second question:

Is there a good all-in-one website for linux software downloads? 
 Similar to Version Tracker for OS 9/X
