I don't know how you all feel about relaying info that hasn't been 
specifically requested, but I freed myself from KDE last night by 
running Gnome.

This page gets you started...typing the command "startx gnome" didn't 
work for me, but running switchdesk did. This, of course, sets Gnome to 
be your default window manager. I must say, Gnome at least looks very 
nice. Dare I say almost mac-like?
