YDL 2.3 on a PowerMac 8600 ...

Hate to say it, but a quick reinstall cleared up a problem similar to 
this for me. (It was a new install so not much time/no data invested 
in YDL yet.)

BTW, I do have YDL running great on both a stock 8600 (288MB RAM) at 
work and an upgraded 8600 (G4-400 upgrade, 640MB RAM, Radeon 7000, 
Sonnet USB/FW card) at home.
