Install of 2.3 onto old DP G4

I am attempting to install yellow Dog Linux 2.3 onto my DP 1GHz G4
PowerMac. I partition the first IDE disc as suggested with a 10MB
startup, 256Mb swap and 1Gb Linux partition. Then the installation of
the packages fails with a "transaction error", and a suggestion that I
should fix it manually! Anybody have any idea where I can go from here?

I don't know if it is relevant, but I have MacOS X 10.2 installed on
the SCSI disks, and I have a "titanium" graphics card, so the graphical
install won't run.

Thanks for any help.

Mike
