Does anyone have YDL 2.3 up on 5400?

Hi

I have a PowerMac 5400/120 (the academic model with standard ethernet)
with 192 M RAM and the int HD partitioned into 500M for mac os and 1.1G
for (I hope) linux. It has a 300MHz Sonnet G3 card in the L2 slot. It
works like a charm in OS 9. When Sonnet said they were giving up trying
to get OS X to run, I decided to try linux. Years ago, I had linux ppc
on this machine, but had long ago removed it.

I bought YDL 2.3 (including support and manual) but when I tried to
install, it hung immediately with the "arch: exit" message I see
referred to in some earlier posts. On the advice of kai from YDL
support, I removed all traces of old kernels and BooX, re-installed
BootX from the CD, and tried again with the text installer and the 2.2
kernel.

Now, I still get an almost immediate hang, with this on the screen:

Welcome to Linux, kernel 2.2.19-1r

started at : 0x00000000
linked at : 0xc0000000
frame buffer at : 0xf1001000 (phys), 0x1001000 (log)
MSR : 0x00000042
HID0 : 0x0081c185
ICTC : 0x00000000

booting...

******

then it just sits there forever till I do a hard restart.

At this point, kai says basically pull out the G3, put back in the old
CPU and try again.
I would be wary of this even if I had the old CPU lying around.

Does _anyone_ have YDL installed on a machine like this or have any good
tricks for installation?

thanks
