unable to allocate partition

I just downlaoded and I am trying to install YDG 3.0 in a titanium 
500/768Ram/40GB with 2 partitions:
1- 5GB for YDG (HFS+ using disk utitily)
2- 35GB for X 10.2.6 and Classic. (HFS+)

as I run the installer, when I get to the partition part, I select Disk 
Druid, select the 5GB parttiton and follow the directions in pg6 of the 
installation guide, but I get an "unable to allocate partition" error.
I've tried 1- selecting different mount points, 2- edit that partition 
and make it an ext3 partition,, and then use the automated formating 
for erasing linux only partitions, but I get the same error.
fairly puzzling....
what's the install guide missing?
