you root partition is definitely not /dev/hda6 - It is /dev/hda8.
If your installation is done properly, you should be able to boot normally
without having to give "linux root=/dev/hda8" - ie press tab and it will
list the operating systems that you can boot into. Type the YDL label and
you should be able to boot.

I followed suggestion and installed YDL 3.0 - following guidelines.
Here is my partition map (I got it after running pdisk as indicated):
# - type - name - length - @ - base - size
1 - Apple_partition_map - Apple - 63 @ 1
2 - Apple_Driver_ATA* - Macintosh - 54 @ 64
3 - Apple_Driver_ATA* - Macintosh - 74 @ 118
4 - Apple_Driver_IOKit - Macintosh - 512 @ 192
5 - Apple_Patches - Patch Partition - 512 @ 704
6 - Apple_Bootstrap - untitled - 2048 @ 1216 - (1.0M)
7 - Apple_HFS - "Mac OS 9" - 20669468 @ 57508314 - (9.9G)
8 - Apple_UNIX_SVR2 - untitled - 56718810 @ 3264 - (27.0G)
9 - Apple_UNIX_SVR2 - swap - 786240 @ 56722074 - (383.9M)
10 - Apple_Free - Extra - 10 @ 78177782
Then restarted and when in boot prompt, typed:
linux root=/dev/hda6
and get same message:
Please wait, loading kernel....
But nothing happens. It just freeze there.
