Also you can put drive icons n the panel by navigating as follows:

Panel/add to panel/applet/utility/drivemount

Then, right click on the new icon in the panel and choose properties.  
You can the configure the drive to be a 'zip100.0' or 'cdrom' etc.. 
repeat for all devices.  You can now mount unmount and eject from this 
lil applet.  Hope it solves yr problem.
