iBook trackpad locking up

I'm having a problem with my iBook 800 identical to the one you  
described below.  I am able to recover the mouse by going to sleep and  
coming back, but that's still unacceptable.  It almost seems like a  
hardware issue.  Did you ever find a proper solution to your problem?

         Whenever I startx (running either kde or fluxbox) and run xmms  
(for
some reason, no other cd tool is working) on my nov2002 ibook, my  
trackpad
freezes.  the time it takes could range from 5 sec to 2 min before it
freezes.  but it always does.  once it freezes, it stays fronzen no  
matter
what  I do. kill xmms, kill X and restart it etc.  the only way to get  
it
back is to reboot!.
is anyone else having this problem? please help.
