Hey, thanks for the link, it was a funny gesture, but I have to say that
there
is reason behind that silly question. I've been fumbling for hours trying to
get things to work. It just doesn't. There's always a header missing, or
something gone wrong -With EVERYTHING.

How do I get apt-get to work? Here is my sources list:

# main (install cds)
rpm http://ftp.yellowdoglinux.com/pub/yellowdog apt/3.0 main
rpm-src http://ftp.yellowdoglinux.com/pub/yellowdog apt/3.0 main

# updates (bugfix, security, etc.)
rpm http://ftp.yellowdoglinux.com/pub/yellowdog apt/3.0 update
rpm-src http://ftp.yellowdoglinux.com/pub/yellowdog apt/3.0 update

#extra
rpm http://ayo.freshrpms.net/yellowdog/ 3.0/ppc freshrpms

I try this command:

apt-get install mplayer

and get:

mplayer: Depends: lame but it is not going to be installed
Depends: mplayer-fonts but it is not going to be installed

To install certain libraries and programs, I require ldconfig, but I don't
have it and I don't know where to get it. What do I do?

You obviously didn't read the guide very well. It is actually a very
useful resource that you should read. Tell us what exactly you've tried
to get vlc to work, and what errors you get.
Then we will be able to figure out what's wrong and how to fix it.

Hi !

I got a problem which looks similar, when I first join this ML.
You can find my thread in the archives (july 2003) on YDL web site.

I remember that during install, YDL hadn't written any settings on my
HD, no root password, no network settings, no account... and also no
yaboot
I was unable to boot linux

I resetted open firmware, changed it as said in how to.
Then launch YDL manually from here, and then launch yaboot again under
root to make it write correctly on bootstrap.
I don't remember exactly what I've done, and to be honest I didn't
understand everything I did. Read my previous thread and maybe you'll
find some hints...

A good place to start is rpmfind.net. Or goole even, for that matter. STFW
is a great mantra. (I swear my wife lives by this!)

You should be able to download the ldconfig rpm from any yellowdog mirror
and install it manually. Certainly, it should be on your install disks.
Mount one of those and find the directory with the RPMs in it.

Also, look at the rpm man page. There are good query options for finding
packages and dependencies right in rpm.

I'm trying to install YDL 3.0 on a G4/350 "Yikes!"
machine. I started by zapping the PRAM a bunch of
times and then booting up from the 1st install disc.

The install appeared to go just fine (I want to run
ONLY YDL on this thing; I selected the default
partition setup even though it showed two
Apple-related partitions as being the first in that
default scheme) and at restart I'm prompted to load
from either Yellow Dog (L)inux or the (C)D-ROm.

Selecting "L" results something about secondary boot,
but then i get the flashing folder icon indiciating
that the system can't find a relevant OS to boot with.

I can't for the life of me figure out what I've done wrong!

Try to get manually in your open firmware, then manually start linux.
Launch yaboot again once logged in.

That's what i 've done. After install I couldn't boot on other system
than my OS 9...

(see my previous thread of early july in archives)...

Any hope of seeing Shockwave Flash for PPC in the foreseeable future?

Thanks

Hello everyone,

My machine is an ibook dual USB 2001...basically the first 12" ibook2
released in May 2001.

I recently installed YDL 3.0. My other partition has Mac OS X 10.1.5.

I wanted to know if it's possible to program Basic Stamp 2 chips from
YDL on my ibook2.

I went to http://bstamp.sourceforge.net/ I downloaded the platform
independent source and followed the install directions. I was able to
"make" and "make install". But when I try to tokenize using this command
(the way it says to use the comman) "bstamp_tokenize hello.bs2
hello.tok" I get the following message:

libstamptokenizer.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory: Success
./tokenizer.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory: Illegal seek

libstamptokenizer.so is in /usr/local/lib which I added to my PATH and
verified that it was added using echo $PATH

that's about all I know to try...the illegal seek response makes me
think that maybe this source isn't truly platform independent.

Thanks for any help you may be able to give me on this

-mital
