Hello:

I am trying to install YDL 3.0 on a Power Macintosh 7200/120 with 48mb RAM,
a 2GB SCSI HDD and a 10 GB SCSI HDD. I downloaded the iso images, burned
them to disc and verified all three using the install mediacheck option.
All of the media checks out OK. I am able to create partitions and format
them with no problems. Problem occurs when copying packages. No matter
which packages I select, I always make it through discs 1 and 2 fine, then
get a kernel panic related to scsi with 9 or 10 packages to go on the third
disc. I have replaced the hard drive once and the cd drive three times. I
have re-downloaded and re-burned the iso images several times.

I get a system that is basically functional, but with many quirks, like the
root password is blank, networking is not configured, sometimes parts of X
are missing, etc.

Is there any way around this, such as some way to resume the install
process in anaconda, or to run the configuration routine manually so I can
get networking working enough to get the missing packages with apt?

Of course, I would love to know how to complete an installation without a
kernel panic.

I have been installing and running RedHat linux since version 3, and this
has been the most difficult install of them all. I have been wrestling
with this problem for three weeks now. I have experienced many problems,
but they have been resolved and I have settled down to this one problem,
which occurs on every attempt to install. I see glimmers of hope, but it
is not yet ready for prime time.

Thank you,
Peter
