Sound problem

Same type of thing ... I get:

Error while initializing sound driver.

device /dev/dsp cant  be opened (No such device)

The wound server will continue, using the null output device.


However I get the same message logging in as root and changing 
quality from Auto  to 8 Logout/in and then 16 Logout/in does not 
change the error.
