iMac Rev A -- newbie help

OK, I received and installed the 4mb VRAM chip today and YDL still won't
install correctly -- this time one of the error messages I get is "could not
set new controlling tty", whatever that is. The install proceeds as before
(text only) but two hours later I'm just now able to boot into Mac OS 9
after several OS9 initializations/installs and zapping the PRAM 300 times.
Yaboot didn't even show itself this go-round.

This coming Saturday will mark a full three weeks I've spent trying to get
Linux on here (YDL, Mandrake, Debian, etc., etc.), and at a rate of five
full hours per night I'm more than done with this project.

It's good to know that I can in fact have 256mb of RAM in here, and good to
know that (in theory) I can run OSX as well -- I don't have the funds or
interest in pursuing either of those avenues when getting Linux on here was
my original (and only) goal.

Thanks everyone for your help, it is sincerely appreciated despite my
ultimate defeat.

Donald :-)
