/etc/fstab ?

I cannot make YDL 3.0.1 remember changes made to /etc/fstab after 
editing the file in pico. As soon as I shut the machine down, it forgets 
that I added a line so that I could mount my floppy drive on a Beige G3. 
  And neither will YDL remember the file /mnt/floppy after I create it 
in the /mnt directory. It vanishes after I shut down the machine.

Why will YDL not keep changes to /etc/fstab? Any suggestions?
