Depending on which kernel you're using, you may need to update you're
kernel to use one of the conexant modem drivers.  www.linuxant.com for the
driver, and www.kernel.org to get the kernel.

Someone wrote a nice, easy to follow how-to on getting the conexant modem
to work:

Now, if your PB has some modem other that conexant, then "???" is all I
can say.
