My screen wont work

Hi can anyone help me?
I've just installed YDL on my iBook (OS 9).
I managed to get the login screen to come up but now
when i type startx nothing happens and when i start up
in graphic mode it just flashes and there is no way to
make it stop.

I tried Xconfigurator and ps aux | grep X
but nothing works.

Has anyone any ideas?
