installing on Powerbook G3 Lombard 333Mhz Bronze keyboard

I'm sorry for the simplicity of my question - I'm quite new to Linux and
know only the rudiments. I've tried to install version 2.1 and version
3.0 on my laptop and each time it quits when installing the packages. I
get an error like 'installation exited abnormally. Sending Signall 11,
Signal Kill. It is now safe to reboot.' I've had this message time and
time again.

I began by partitioning my single drive in two partitions using Drive
Setup in Mac OS 9.2. I then rebooted from the Yellow Dog CD and have
tried installing in GUI and 'safe' modes with the same result each time.

Doe anyone have any ideas what this could be?
