System slower after install/deinstall extra network card

I've installed a 100Mbit eth card (recognised as eth1) in a G3 266 and 
it worked fine.

Then I took it out of the machine.

I saw the system was slower.

I deleted eth1 from the graphical interface.

The system is still slower....
