Install disk doesn't boot

In this case, he may have to use Quik:
http://penguinppc.org/bootloaders/quik/ , but it is not the easiest to
set up and I think it actually needs an installed Linux, hence
defeating the entire purpose...

However, on a G3 you can actually boot your Classic Enviroment system
folder as an OS, can't you? Or at least install 9 easily enough...
