YDL 4.0 does not find disk on Acard PCI controller

Tried to install YDL 4.0 on my beige G3 onto a 2nd drive connected to 
an aec 6260m pci card. The installer starts up fine, but then 
unfortunately, the disk does not show up in the list of drives and 
therefore cannot be chosen to be the host of the install.
Is there any chance to make the drive visible (e.g. a specific kernel 
with the necessary driver or a clever boot parameter?)
