(a) Yes, I suspect the low RAM is a big part of the problem.
Have successfully installed and used to connect to iNet via a router/DSL 
with other Win machines on small home network on both PowerMac 5400 and 
5500 which use same logic board, memory as the 6500. Both machines had 
max RAM of 128 MB. I may even have some extra 64 MB pieces around.

(b) can I do a text-based install?
(b) I've had success with both text and GUI installs, but not without 
fits and starts.

I'm now using a G4 Mac for YDL but still have one of my 5500's out in 
the garage awaiting a hard drive transplant procedure so it can be 
resurrected as an Old World test machine.
