YDL sound support for a G3 b&w clamshell (OT)

Mr. Oseguera:
I don't know what TSS will do. However, the following may be useful to
you:

Regarding the G3, in general it is best to use YDL 3 along with the
program BootX which comes with YDL 3. BootX is a control panel which
functions within Mac OS 8/9 (otherwise known as Mac Classic OS).
Essentially, BootX is the program used from within Mac OS 9 (or
whatever is the Mac OS standard on that machine) to boot your Mac into
YDL. If you are willing to do the extra work it takes to use YDL 4 on
an Old World Mac (in general, G3's and older) the instructions are
here:

Remember Old World computers will always need BootX (there is an
alternative to BootX, but I've read conflicting evaluations regarding
the stability of those alternatives); and some G3's can directly boot
into Linux via yaboot and some cannot (the differences are due to how
Apple built those G3's and one model can differ from another produced
only months earlier or later). Although I am sure that G3's and G3's
running YDL 4.0.1 are not "officially" supported by TSS that doesn't
mean that some work around to get such a union working doesn't exist,
but rather that as long as you hang on to the older architecture it
will be harder to participate in the better code and updates intended
for newer machines.

The monkey wrench of course, is that the hardware is Apple's and what
is in there has to be lived with. I had a nice 233MHz G3 tower which I
used to run YDL but after all the convolutions necessary to run both OS
9 as a prop to get into YDL; I had enough. Now I use daily and
exclusively a PB G4. I really haven't bothered looking back since.
The G4 can run YDL as the sole OS on the drive. Yes, I have lived
without the music. I have lived even without the system beep. I don't
know when this will change anytime soon, or even if it will. Only TSS
knows for sure.

Does one dare dream?
