Not a problem, especially as TSS made it very easy by posting their
hardware evaluations for each YDL release in pretty much the same
pages across many years!

As far as seeing an increase in performance, I'm sure you'll be very
surprised at how fast the G3 can be when it's not weighed down by OS X.
When I was running YDL on my old G3 I always preferred to do
everything in YDL since I could actually get serious programming
and other work done.  Whenever I tried to do the same work on the same
computer but within Apple's OS I always had to wait for Apple's spinning
ball to stop rolling around.  The G3 (which I still have, but I've
cannibalized for it's hard drive and other parts) was an Old World
model, yours is a New World model. Stated simply my model can't run YDL
5 using yaboot, yours can.  

Instead of dealing with the G3, I was given the opportunity to move up
to a G4 laptop.  I'm praying that God inspires some insane engineering
company to develop a laptop with the Cell or a Cell cluster at it's
heart. Despite my enthusiasm, I must state that not everyone will
consider compiling source code a learning process regarding how many
open source programs are constructed.

The advantage of getting used to the compilation process is that when
you want something and should that program be available for Intel,
or OS X and nearly anything else but YDL -- then you can download the
source and compile it for your machine.  The process is clear and
straight-forward, especially if one is prepared with a reference text
or two discussing Unix/Linux System Administration and Programming.

Hopefully, you'll find new life for your G3 with YDL 5 and be pleased
with the change.
