Did you happen to look at the contents of that file?

This is what you see when mounting an HFS+ volume as HFS (for example,
mounting an OS 8.5 disk under OS 8.1 or so).

Use hfsplusutils rather than hfsutils. Basically everything is the same
except you run hpmount instead of hmount, hpls instead of hls, etc.
