Todd Daniel Woodward's bits of Wed, 18 Oct 2000 translated to:

I have come across this message a couple times in the past, with other
software packages. The claim has been that it is due to a deficiency in
the configuration files used when you run configure. Or something along
those lines. I never pursued the issue because I knew for a fact that
mutexes were there and working just fine.

To the best of my knowledge the threading support is as complete as with
any other typical Linux distro. A have written and worked with some heavy
MT apps on my G4 and am yet to encounter a problem in that area.
