RPM dependencies can get quite tangled. Often, you have to
upgrade lots of other stuff that has nothing to do with what
you're trying to do.
By building from source, you eliminate these problems.

Then you can compile /that/ library from source also. If you
are wise and install everything into /usr/local, then you don't
mess up the restof you system in case things go funny.
