I don't use rsync but checking the http://linuxppc.org/usr/xf4/
page it looks like you are missing the final . (point) at the end
of the command line, this point means you want the files to be copied
in the current directory, I guess that's your problem. You have
to type
rsync -arvz penguinppc.org::xfree86-pmac .
and not
rsync -arvz penguinppc.org::xfree86-pmac
as you mentioned in your mail.
