I don't know if this'll help much, but I just installed YDL from the
ISO disk images onto a PowerComputing PowerTower 200e. Ethernet
worked fine without any extra configuration needed on my part. If
anything, I'd think the 8600 (which is from a similar era) ought to
have a more compatible motherboard and ethernet than my clone
machine.
