I got this message once when I tried to boot from a
locked start disk (MacOS 9.0.4). Possibly MacOS expects an
unlocked start disk and gets confused when some cached,
modified file system information do not match the
(locked) copy on the disk.
The error disappeared when I enabled read-write privileges.
