I take it this is on a LAN? What do the sheep_net kernel messages say? It
should indicate what address it is filtering on. It may be an indication that
it's not working properly if it is continually changing its mind.

As mentioned before, if the network traffic is properly heavy (i.e. when there
are a lot of packets actually directed at the Mac rather than just flowing
past
it) the IP filter will be useless. Its job is to filter out unnecessary
packets. If all the packets are necessary then you're back to square one.
